I love when artists in bands pursue solo projects and give us a taste of their own music style separate from the group. Chris del Camino–saxophone player for HiRIE–has done just that and blessed us with his very first single titled “Heartbeat”. The track began as a beat Chris created and passed around to his HiRIE band members. While it didn’t end up a HiRIE song, he nurtured the simple tune and transformed it into what I believe will be just one of many greats in the Chris del Camino discography.
As I listened to “Heartbeat” numerous times over the past week (no joke like twenty times a day, it’s THAT GOOD), the bittersweet lyrics touched my soul a bit deeper each time, reminding me how beautiful, but ultimately painful, love can be. The breathy, synth-heavy jam is incredibly danceable and features a catchy af verse care of Inna Vision and a sexy sax solo Kenny G would be proud of. Chris’s vocals are dreamy, ethereal and goosebump-inducing… all veritable hallmarks of a true gem.
Give it a listen tomorrow, Friday June 22 (I’ll add the Spotify link here once it’s live!), and be prepared to get lost in your memories for about three and a half minutes while bobbing your head and uncontrollably shaking your hips like no one’s watching.
